Play Now on MTG Forge
All cards and rules are programmed into a free, opensource branch of MTG Forge. Play draft, sealed, or build constructed decks. Play against AI or other humans.
Some notes: I'm sure there are bugs I've missed while tweaking cards endlessly over development. I used MTG Forge really for playtesting and ensuring rules accuracy. But since it's a legitimate, fully built engine for playing MTG, I figured I'd share it so anyone could play the set immediately without needing to print it. Just be warned that the AI will sometimes do pretty dumb things, so don't expect too much of a challenge.
How to Install
All you need to do is download an executable and move the images into the right folder. Instructions are below. If you're familiar with programming, you can also feel free to clone this branch, follow the instructions in the README, and run it in an IDE.
For PC:
- Download the zip for PC from here (Mac bundle is not available. If you clone the repo and run it, you can get it on OSX).
- Extract this into a folder of your choice.
- Once it's extracted, navigate to res/cardsfolder and extract this cardsfolder.zip file there. These are the .txt files for all the card scripts (for all existing MTG cards, not just these custom Pokémon cards). This will take a while.
- Move the Pokémon card pics to the right location. They're in a folder called "pics". Forge needs those in the right place on your system to find them:
- On PC: \Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Forge\Cache\pics
- On Mac: /Users/{username}/Library/Caches/forge/pics
- (On either OS, you should now have a folder at the pics location called "cards/PKM" with all the card images and a folder called "tokens" with all the token images)
- Click the "forge.exe" file to play!
The Pokémon cards will be listed under an expansion set named "Pokémon" in the app. You can play constructed, draft, sealed, or whatever you like. Draft and sealed will build boosters with an algorithm that's specific to this set. It will try to ensure you have an evolution for at least one card in each rarity slot. You pick two cards per pack and there are sixteen cards per pack. This lets drafters more easily pick evolution combos.
